NY: New York NOW Head: Gillibrand ‘Great,’ But Maloney for Senate

Posted by admin under Politicker.com

ALBANY—As a candidate to replace Hillary Clinton when she becomes secretary of state, Representative Kirsten Gillibrand is thought to be an attractive option because she represents an upstate district and would be the only woman to hold an elected statewide post.
But the head of the New York chapter of the National Organization of Women said she would prefer a woman with a longer track record of advancing women’s issues than Gillibrand, who was comfortably re-elected to her second term.
“I think Kirsten’s a great person and a great Congresswoman, but I would prefer at this point to see someone who has sunk her teeth into women’s issues and civil rights issues,” said Marcia Pappas.

State Tom Duane, a panelist, said his message to Espada (and presumably, the other other holdouts) is “that you’re a Democrat and you need to vote for a Democratic leader.

NY: Is This Thing On?

Posted by admin under Politicker.com

ALBANY—It seemed the only people working at the Capitol on Black Friday were crews from the Office of General Services stringing lights around the state's official holiday tree.
According to a press release, the tree is a 30-foot blue donated by Arlene Blasen of Latham. The lights are LEDs which use less electricity than normal.
The Tree will be lit formally on December 7.

CA: SPECIAL HOLIDAY REPORT: Vote recount could be next in McClintock/Brown race

Posted by admin under Politicker.com

When vote totals are certified next week in the 4th Congressional District race, it might not be the end, but just the end of the beginning.
The campaigns for both Democrat Charlie Brown and Republican Tom McClintock are prepared in case the county-certified vote total draws a corresponding legal action that could take weeks to resolve.
